Description

A decadent Black Forest Bliss Cake featuring layers of rich chocolate cake, cherry filling, and creamy chocolate buttercream, perfect for any celebration.


Ingredients

  • 1 ¾ cups (220g) all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup (75g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ cups (300g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup (120ml) vegetable oil
  • 1 cup (240ml) buttermilk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup (180ml) hot coffee (or hot water)
  • 2 cups (350g) fresh or frozen cherries, pitted
  • ½ cup (100g) sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch + 1 tbsp water (slurry)
  • 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, room temp
  • 2 ½ cups (300g) powdered sugar
  • ½ cup (50g) cocoa powder
  • 24 tbsp heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • ¾ cup (120g) semi-sweet chocolate
  • ½ cup (120ml) heavy cream
  • Fresh cherries for topping
  • Chocolate shavings or curls for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 8-inch pans.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: flour, cocoa, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt.
  3. Add eggs, oil, buttermilk, and vanilla → whisk until smooth.
  4. Slowly pour in hot coffee (batter will be thin).
  5. Divide into pans and bake 28–32 minutes.
  6. Cool completely.
  7. In a saucepan, heat cherries, sugar, and lemon juice.
  8. Simmer until cherries release juice.
  9. Stir in cornstarch slurry → cook until thick and glossy.
  10. Cool fully.
  11. Beat butter 3 minutes until pale.
  12. Add powdered sugar + cocoa → beat.
  13. Add cream + vanilla until fluffy and spreadable.
  14. Heat cream, pour over chocolate, stir until silky. Cool slightly.
  15. Place first cake layer.
  16. Spread a thin layer of buttercream.
  17. Spoon a thick layer of cherry filling.
  18. Add second cake layer.
  19. Frost the top and optionally the sides.
  20. Pour ganache drip around edges.
  21. Top with fresh cherries + chocolate curls.

Notes

  • Ensure the cake is completely cool before frosting to prevent melting.
  • For a richer flavor, use high-quality cocoa powder.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
