Description

A rich and indulgent cake inspired by the classic Boston Cream Pie — fluffy yellow cake soaked with creamy vanilla pudding and topped with a glossy chocolate ganache.


Ingredients

  • 1 box yellow cake mix (plus ingredients listed on box: eggs, oil, water)
  • 2 boxes (3.4 oz each) instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 4 cups cold milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp butter

Instructions

  1. Prepare cake mix as directed on the box. Bake in a 9×13-inch pan until golden and a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool slightly.
  2. In a bowl, whisk pudding mix with cold milk until smooth and thickened. Using the handle of a wooden spoon, poke holes all over the cake (about 1 inch apart). Pour pudding mixture evenly over the cake, letting it fill the holes. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour to set.
  3. Heat heavy cream until just simmering. Pour over chocolate chips and let sit for 2 minutes. Stir until smooth, then mix in butter for shine.
  4. Spread chocolate ganache evenly over chilled cake. Refrigerate another 1–2 hours before serving.
