Description

A comforting and hearty dish combining a flavorful meatloaf layer with creamy mashed potatoes and topped with melted cheddar cheese.


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ lb (680 g) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup BBQ sauce
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 45 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ½ cup milk (more if needed)
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Optional: cooked bacon bits or crispy fried onions
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×9-inch (23×23 cm) baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the onion and garlic until softened.
  3. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in BBQ sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 3–4 minutes, then remove from heat.
  5. Boil potatoes until fork-tender, then mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper until smooth and creamy.
  6. Spread the meat mixture evenly at the bottom of the dish.
  7. Layer the mashed potatoes on top.
  8. Sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese and optional bacon bits or fried onions.
  9. Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly with golden edges.
  10. Garnish with fresh parsley, slice, and enjoy!

  • This dish can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator before baking.
