Description

Crispy Shrimp Cakes are delicious patties made with fresh shrimp, garlic, and herbs, perfect for a tasty appetizer or main dish.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450 g) raw shrimp, peeled & deveined
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • ½ tsp sesame oil (optional)
  • ½ cup panko breadcrumbs (plus extra for coating)
  • 2 tbsp chopped cilantro or parsley
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • Oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Roughly chop half the shrimp into chunks.
  2. Process the other half in a food processor until a paste forms.
  3. Mix both together to give texture and binding.
  4. Add garlic, onion, egg, mayonnaise, soy sauce, sesame oil, breadcrumbs, and herbs.
  5. Mix until combined and holds shape.
  6. Scoop about 2 tbsp mixture per cake and shape into patties.
  7. Coat lightly with extra panko for extra crunch.
  8. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  9. Fry shrimp cakes for 3–4 minutes per side until crispy and cooked through.
  10. Drain on paper towels.
  11. Garnish with parsley and serve hot with sweet chili dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add chopped jalapeños to the mixture.
  • These cakes can be made ahead of time and frozen before frying.
  • Serve with a side salad for a complete meal.
