Description
A delicious and indulgent dessert that combines the flavors of apple pie and cinnamon rolls in a layered lasagna format.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and diced
- 2 tbsp butter
- ¼ cup (50 g) brown sugar
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp nutmeg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp cornstarch + 1 tbsp water (optional, for thickening)
- 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup (120 ml) heavy cream
- 2 cans (8-count each) refrigerated cinnamon rolls (with icing packets included)
- 1 tbsp melted butter (for greasing)
- Reserved icing from cinnamon rolls (optional)
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
- Caramel drizzle (optional)
Instructions
- In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add diced apples, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Stir and cook for 6–8 minutes, until the apples soften and caramelize. (Optional) Stir in cornstarch slurry if you prefer a thicker sauce. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- In a bowl, beat cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Add vanilla and heavy cream; beat until fluffy and creamy. Chill while you prepare the cinnamon rolls.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch (23×23 cm) baking dish with melted butter. Open the cinnamon rolls and set aside the icing packets. Flatten each cinnamon roll into a ¼-inch thick disk (use your fingers or a rolling pin). Layer half of them on the bottom of the dish, slightly overlapping.
- Spread half of the cream cheese filling over the first cinnamon roll layer. Spoon half of the caramelized apples evenly on top. Repeat the layers: cinnamon rolls → cream cheese filling → apples. Finish with a final layer of cinnamon rolls on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 10–15 minutes, until golden and bubbling. Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing (the filling will thicken as it cools).
- Drizzle with the reserved icing from the cinnamon rolls. Optionally dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with warm caramel for a glossy finish.
Notes
- For a thicker apple filling, use the cornstarch slurry.
- Let the lasagna cool slightly before slicing to allow the filling to set.
- Feel free to customize toppings based on your preference.
