Description

A decadent dessert recipe for Red Velvet Oreo Dream Cake, combining rich red velvet cake with creamy Oreo frosting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 cup buttermilk (room temperature)
  • 2 Tbsp red food coloring
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 16 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar (sifted)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 12 Oreo cookies (crushed into fine crumbs)
  • 68 Oreo cookies (halved) for decoration
  • Red velvet cake crumbs (from trimmed edges)
  • Whipped cream swirls (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat sugar and oil until combined. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla and vinegar.
  4. Mix in red food coloring.
  5. Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk until smooth.
  6. Divide batter evenly between pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let cool completely, then level cakes if needed (save scraps for crumbs).
  8. Beat cream cheese and butter until creamy.
  9. Gradually add powdered sugar and beat until fluffy.
  10. Stir in vanilla extract and crushed Oreos.
  11. Place one cake layer on a plate. Spread a thick layer of Oreo frosting on top.
  12. Add a handful of chopped Oreo pieces for crunch.
  13. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the entire cake.
  14. Press red velvet crumbs around the sides of the cake.
  15. Pipe swirls of frosting on top and garnish with halved Oreos.
  16. Sprinkle extra cake crumbs for a dramatic look.

Notes

  • Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for best results.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
  • For a richer flavor, let the cake sit overnight before serving.
