Description

A delicious and easy-to-make Spinach & Feta Roll-Up, perfect as an appetizer or snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (7 g) dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 250 ml warm milk
  • 50 g butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 300 g fresh spinach (or 200 g frozen, thawed and well-drained)
  • 200 g feta cheese, crumbled
  • 100 g cream cheese (optional, for extra creaminess)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano (or dill)
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1 egg yolk + 1 tbsp milk (for brushing)
  • Fresh parsley or dill, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Mix yeast, sugar, and warm milk. Let rest 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour, salt, melted butter, and egg. Knead until smooth (8–10 minutes).
  3. Cover and let rise for 1 hour, until doubled in size. (Skip this step if using puff pastry.)
  4. Heat olive oil in a pan, sauté onion and garlic until soft.
  5. Add spinach and cook until wilted (or warmed through if frozen).
  6. Let cool slightly, then mix with feta, cream cheese, oregano, and black pepper.
  7. Roll out the dough (or puff pastry) into a large rectangle.
  8. Spread spinach-feta mixture evenly.
  9. Roll tightly from the long edge into a log.
  10. Place on a parchment-lined baking tray, seam side down.
  11. Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F).
  12. Brush with egg wash, sprinkle parsley or dill on top.
  13. Bake 30–35 minutes until golden and cooked through.
  14. Slice into thick spirals and serve warm as an appetizer, snack, or side dish.

Notes

  • For a quicker version, use 1 large sheet of puff pastry instead of making the dough.
  • Feel free to add other herbs or spices to the filling for extra flavor.
