- 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
- ¾ cup (180 ml) warm milk (about 40°C)
- ¼ cup (50 g) granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- ¼ cup (55 g) unsalted butter, softened
- 2 ½ cups (315 g) all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp salt
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
- 1 ½ cups (180 g) powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp strawberry purée (made from fresh or frozen berries)
- 1 tbsp heavy cream or milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- A few drops of pink food coloring (optional)
- Fresh diced strawberries for topping
- Crushed freeze-dried strawberries or raspberries for topping
- White sprinkles or sugar pearls for topping
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
- Add the egg and softened butter; whisk to combine.
- Mix in flour and salt, kneading until a smooth, soft dough forms (about 8 minutes).
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–1½ hours until doubled in size.
- Roll out dough to about ½ inch (1.25 cm) thickness.
- Cut out circles using a donut cutter (or two round cutters).
- Place on a parchment-lined tray, cover, and let rest for another 30–45 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry each donut 1–2 minutes per side, until golden and puffed.
- Drain on paper towels and let cool slightly.
- In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, strawberry purée, cream, and vanilla.
- Adjust consistency — it should be thick but pourable.
- Dip cooled donuts into the glaze and set on a wire rack to drip.
- While glaze is still wet, top with diced strawberries, crushed freeze-dried berries, and sprinkles.
- Let set 15 minutes before serving.

- Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to activate the yeast properly.
- For a richer flavor, use fresh strawberries for the glaze.
