Description

Flaky golden puff pastry filled with luscious vanilla cream, dusted with powdered sugar, and topped with whipped cream for an elegant bakery-style treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (store-bought, thawed)
  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • 2 cups (480 ml) milk
  • ½ cup (100 g) sugar
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (or vanilla bean paste)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • ½ cup (120 ml) heavy cream (whipped, folded in for extra lightness)
  • Sweetened whipped cream (piped)
  • Extra powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Cut puff pastry into strips (~1 inch wide).
  3. Wrap each strip around metal cream horn molds (or improvise with foil-wrapped cones).
  4. Brush with egg wash.
  5. Bake 15–18 minutes until golden and puffed. Cool completely before filling.
  6. In a saucepan, whisk milk, sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks.
  7. Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly until thickened.
  8. Remove from heat, stir in butter and vanilla.
  9. Let cool completely, then fold in whipped cream for a light, mousse-like texture.
  10. Transfer cream to a piping bag.
  11. Pipe into cooled puff pastry shells until full.
  12. Dust with powdered sugar.
  13. Pipe whipped cream swirls on top for garnish.

Notes

  • Ensure the puff pastry is fully thawed before use.
  • For best results, chill the filled pastry rolls before serving.
  • Experiment with different flavorings in the cream filling if desired.
